What’s in it for me?

  • Arriving in the US on February 21, 2014, Typhoon Haiyan's devastation initially deterred my nursing dream. However, working at a Thai restaurant beside a hospital, I met inspiring Filipina nurses. They connected me with the Filipino Community and Nurses Association in Missouri, motivating me to pursue nursing. The PNAGSL supported me throughout my studies and beyond, offering valuable guidance and recommendations. I'm thankful for Evelyn Sullivan and Maria Hipolito's crucial guidance.

  • I arrived in the United States of America in July 2022, and I have always taken the American Dream depicting kindness and compassion as very significant now more than ever. My USA journey was made possible through the helping hands of Alice Torregosa of Lifepath Health Careers, and the current president of the Philippine Nurses Association of Greater St. Louis. During my first days here in America, Alice invited me to a meet and greet event at PNA GSL, where I accepted varied donations from their active members. They provided us with necessities such as plates, silverware, blankets, pillows, and furniture. I was also one of the newcomer nurses who invited us to a dinner in the house of Lili Calabio, the founder of the PNA Greater St. Louis. Those simple gestures shared with us novice Filipino nurses may turn into positive change and motivate me to join the organization. As a PNA GSL member, I focused on residential care facility nursing and behavioral health. My philosophy of health is rooted in the mindset that a healthy body continually builds and improves collaboratively in an interprofessional manner. Furthermore, I am one of the recipients of the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA) 2023 scholarship awards to attain my goals of dedicating my life to being a Filipino nurse caring for other people through achieving academic excellence. As a leader, my vision is to expand my scope of influence by working across sectors, professions, and disciplines to build a culture of interdisciplinary effort and improve health results. I am actively participating in PNAA conferences at the regional and national levels as I am dedicated to achieving my nurse collaboration journey. I now serve the organization as the corresponding secretary and chairperson of the membership committee, elevating the nursing profession and promoting PNA GSL shared leadership and teamwork.
